The bad plastic smell from the new air fryer is a common problem. Sometimes the smell is too strong that we often dispose of the air fryer and purchase a new one. Many of us do not know how to deal with the plastic smell. In this article, I will show you how to get rid of the bad plastic smell in the air fryer.
Do the air fryers smell?
Air fryers can smell bad. When we cook at high temperature with a new air fryer it gives a plastic smell. Although not all the new air fryers will smell bad majority of them will. Below are the reasons for the plastic smell of the air fryers.
Why does the air fryer smell bad?
The protective coating of the air fryer cooking basket is the prime reason for the burning plastic smell.
Although this smell will go away after cooking with it for a few days. When the protective coating is exposed to a very high temperature, it gives a bad smell.
Although the plastic coating goes away after a few days, the air fryer still can bad smell because of the bad impact of the fume that was generated due to the coating.
Apart from the plastic coating, you may still experience a bad smell from the air fryer. The heating element is usually located at the top of the air fryer. Over time food particles may accumulate on the heating element. If these food particles get burnt they can generate a bad smell.
How to get rid of the plastic smell in the air fryer?
I always prefer the air fryers made with stainless steel. They have fewer plastic components and thus produce little or no plastic smell. However, they are a bit expensive but healthier.
If you have got a plastic-made air fryer, then follow my suggestions to get rid of the bad smells. At first, remove the protective plastic coating from the air fryer and the food basket.
After removing the coating, dry run the air fryer at 400F for 20 minutes. Then check for the smell. If it persists then give another dry run.
If the bad smell is still there after a few dry runs then separate the removable air fryer accessories such as cooking baskets, rotisserie accessories, baking pan, air fryer racks, and so on.
Wash all these accessories with warm water for 15 minutes. You may also wipe the inside of the air fryer with a towel soaked with vinegar solution.
Bottom line
You can experience a bad smell from the air fryer at least to some extent. Therefore, take the necessary actions that I have already mentioned. You should not overlook the smell thinking that it will go away automatically. We can not risk our health by consuming contaminated food.
