Differences in the features
Ninja AF101 is a smaller size air fryer having a basket capacity of 4 qt. On the other hand, AF161 has a capacity of 5.5 qt. Therefore, the latter one is more suitable for a larger family. A 4 qt air fryer is mostly suitable for a single person or a family of 2. But if you choose it for a large family, then you will have to cook in multiple batches when you need to cook for all of the family members.
Color, Weight, and dimension
As a higher capacity model, Ninja AF161 is proportionately heavier and bulkier. Although the shape of these two air fryers is almost the same. Both of them are black with a glossy finish. To me, they look premium.
Ninja AF161 has a more powerful heating element than the counterpart. The rated power of this unit is 1750W where the other has the rated power of 1500W. Heating element with higher power ensures more uniform cooking in less time.
Ninja AF101 has four preset cooking options in the digital touch panel. The preset functions are air fry, preheat, roast, and dehydrate. On the other hand, AF161 has air broil, bake and max crisp functions in addition.
Both of these air fryers has a lower temperature of 105F. Therefore, both of them can dehydrate food. But the maximum temperature of AF161 and AF101 is 400F and 450F respectively. Therefore, the earlier model has some additional cooking options such as max crisp.
Ceramic coated basket is a feature that both of this model has. It makes the air fryers nonsticky. Another special feature of both of them is dehydration function that you will not find in smaller size air fryers. Additionally, air broil is a function that is available in the AF161 model which is also an exceptional feature for a comparatively smaller size air fryer.

Which one is the winner?
From the comparison, it is clear that Ninja 161 model the winner. But if you consider the value for money, then AF101 is not bad either comparing with similar models of other brands. Therefore, it fits your purpose, then the Ninja AF101 model is also a good choice. On the other hand, the AF161 is a bit pricy comparing with a 6 qt air fryer of other brands. But it gives more value than the additional costs.
